EIP wins Managing Intellectual Property award for patent litigation

EIP is delighted to announce that it scooped the 2018 UK Patent and Trademark Attorney Firm of the Year award for Patent Litigation last night at the prestigious Managing Intellectual Property Awards.

In the last year EIP’s litigation team EIP Legal successfully represented Unwired Planet International Limited against Huawei Technologies (UK). Co. Ltd and its parent Huawei Technologies Co. Limited in a standard essential patent dispute involving issues of infringement, validity, essentiality, competition, what it means to license such patents under Fair Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory (“FRAND”) terms and remedies in litigation involving standard essential patents.

The EIP team achieved successes on all of these fronts in 2017 with a victory before the UK Courts on matters of validity, infringement and essentiality and achieving a landmark decision with global significance in relation to the determination of a worldwide FRAND licence for a standard essential patent portfolio. The resulting judgments on FRAND are of great interest to the telecoms sector in general.

Partner Matt Jones said: “On behalf of the patent litigation team, I am thrilled that we have picked up this award and we are very thankful to Managing IP for recognising our expertise in this area, our success before the Court of Appeal and the significance of the FRAND judgement.”
