Formed in November 2011, EIP’s litigation group has quickly established itself as a major player in IP litigation, particularly in the area of patents. The litigation group currently has seven partners, sixteen associates and two trainee solicitors; it has recently recruited several additional associates to cope with its rapidly expanding workload.

The combined litigation offering in London and Dusseldorf, the two major patent litigation centres in Europe, makes the firm particularly attractive to major entities looking to enforce or defend their patents on a pan-European basis. The litigation group has also rapidly established itself as leading commentators in the area of IP. It has published a large number of articles and its members blog and tweet on a regular basis. The firm takes continuing education very seriously and has regular training sessions.

The Role

The Trainee Solicitor will undergo a 2 year, SRA approved, training contract to become a fully qualified solicitor.

EIP’s expert team of solicitors, patent & trade mark attorneys provides a ‘cradle to grave’ Intellectual Property service for our clients, advising them on the management and exploitation of their own, and third parties’ IP, helping them obtain registered rights, and pursuing those who infringe upon those rights. The EIP Legal group provides IP litigation services on behalf of our clients as well as commercial advice on licensing and exploitation. The team is led by an industry leading IP litigation partner and is based in London and Dusseldorf.

The Trainee Solicitor will support and assist qualified solicitors in all aspects of their work covering both contentious and non-contentious matters. Specifically, you will cover legal areas including:

• Drafting
• Interviewing & advising
• Legal research
• Negotiation; and
• Dispute resolution

Additionally, the Trainee Solicitor will develop their skills in other areas, to include:

• Client care
• Practice support
• Case management
• Advocacy & oral presentation
• Communication skills
• Business development

During the second year of the training contract, the Trainee Solicitor will undertake a secondment to one of our clients.

Personal Specification

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• An undergraduate degree in a scientific subject.
• GDL / LPC passed
• A desire to build a long-term career in patent litigation.
• Strong IT skills as we are a paperless office.
• A flexible, “can do” approach is essential; the candidate will at times be expected to work outside of normal office hours.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A confident decision maker
• Strong organizational skills including planning, prioritising, timekeeping and meeting deadlines

Candidates may have but are not required to have:

• An MSc or PhD qualification in a scientific subject
