Partner, UK and European Patent Attorney
London, EIP Europe LLP
Pete’s commercial approach to practice is underpinned by his 17-year career working in the in-house IP department at BT.
In addition to managing BT’s international portfolio of patents and registered designs, Pete led a team of patent attorneys who worked closely with inventors to determine patentable inventions, and alongside IP exploitation specialists to identify third-party rights of commercial interest.
Pete was also responsible for co-ordinating BT’s defence against claims of patent infringement in the UK and the USA and also helped prepare and develop a number of cases of patent infringement litigation in the USA.
Pete has worked across a wide range of technologies, including broadband, network infrastructure and testing, content analysis and classification, autonomous networks, high capacity optical networks and wireless technologies. While at BT he also developed strategies for patenting in the highly-complex area, technically and legally, of business methods.
In between two spells at BT, Pete worked at a firm of patent attorneys where his clients ranged from SMEs to multinationals in technology sectors including automotive, oil and gas, semiconductors, telecoms and software.
Prior to his career in IP, Pete was a development engineer working on projects relating to optical fibre reliability and optical cable design and installation. He has a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with French from the University of Nottingham and a master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law and Management from the University of Strasbourg.
