Matt Lawman has been named on an elite list of the world’s top IP strategists.

Matt, who is head of EIP Strategy, is one of only eight UK Patent Attorneys in private practice listed in the IAM Strategy 300: The World’s Leading IP Strategists.

The rankings are based upon researchers’ interviews with a wide range of senior corporate IP managers, as well as third-party IP service providers, to identify the most outstanding IP strategists. Matt’s practice works with clients ranging from multinational corporations to start-up enterprises and specialises in helping IP owners to shape and maximise the value of their IP portfolios. He is also a member of EIP’s Patentise team, which advises companies on how to get the most benefit from the UK Patent Box scheme.

Matt said: “It’s obviously nice to be acknowledged in this way. Intellectual property generally, and IP strategy in particular, are not widely understood by people outside of the IP profession. It’s extremely rewarding to be in a position to help companies develop their awareness and approach in what is becoming an ever more important aspect of business.”

IAM’s editor, Joff Wild, said: “You do not get named in the IAM Strategy 300 by accident. Everyone identified in this year’s edition has an established track record in providing top-quality advice to IP owners - advice that has helped to deliver significant value to the businesses concerned, as well as to those who invest in them.

“They are an essential part of wealth creation in the 21st century economy, yet in many ways they are hidden away from public view, when in fact their achievements deserve to be celebrated. We hope that the IAM Strategy 300 will help them to gain at least some of the recognition they deserve.”

Trade Secrets: Navigating geopolitical risks and IP theft in the semiconductor industry
04 November 2025
Semiconductors have always been a critical technology but have grown significantly in strategic importance in recent years. They have become the key building block in developing and existing markets, including quantum computing, edge computing, AI, IoT, automotive, cellular data technology, smartphones, robotics, and many more. The complex designs and innovations that power semiconductor manufacturing are invaluable both to the world’s economy and technological advancement. Consequently, the semiconductor industry has found itself at the centre of geopolitical tensions, especially between the United States and China. It has become a prime target for cyberattacks and intellectual-property (IP) theft. As such, companies operating in this area must be more vigilant in protecting their intellectual assets.
