Rita Nissim

Rita is a solicitor in EIP's Litigation Team and joined EIP after training at a specialist IP & technology firm.

During her training, Rita worked on a range of transactional matters, such as IP licensing arrangements and research collaboration agreements. She was also seconded to EIP for four months, primarily working on patent disputes covering mobile telephony standards and also carrying out work for a client in the pharmaceutical sector.

Prior to starting her training, Rita was a Technology Licensing Executive at Imperial Innovations, the technology transfer office of Imperial College London.

Rita holds an M.Chem. and a D.Phil. in Physical & Theoretical Chemistry, both from the University of Oxford. As a researcher, she developed novel sensors with medical and environmental safety applications and produced seven first-author articles that were published in international journals.

Rita has completed the Legal Practice Course and the Graduate Diploma in Law, both of which she passed with Distinction.

Experience

  • Conversant Wireless Licensing v Apple: Acted for Conversant in its enforcement action against Apple that related to two of Conversant’s implementation patents (covering display navigation and Bluetooth). The matter settled prior to the second technical trial.
  • Optis Cellular Technology v Apple: Part of the UK team that acted for Optis in relation to the trial that found that no estoppel defence arose out “late” declarations of standard essential patents (Optis Cellular Technology v Apple [2021] EWHC 1739 (Pat))
