EIP has expanded the team at its San Diego, California office with the hire of experienced attorney Cynthia Arko.

Cynthia is a Registered U.S. Patent Attorney and joined EIP on 14 August from TechLaw LLP. She previously worked for five years at US IP law firm Knobbe Martens.

Cynthia becomes the first attorney hired at the San Diego office since it opened in May 2013. In establishing a base in California EIP became the only UK IP law firm to have a US law practice.

Partner Phillip Bennett, head of the San Diego office, said: “It’s been an exciting first few months for EIP in San Diego. Cynthia possesses unique and wide-ranging legal skills which will enable EIP to continue to deliver excellent service to our clients. Having worked with Cynthia for several years prior to joining EIP, it is fantastic to have the opportunity to work with her again as we continue to build our team in San Diego. The hire of Cynthia will be the first of several for EIP in San Diego in the months ahead.”

Cynthia is a specialist in patents for acoustic, cleantech, electromechanical, mechanical, medical and optical devices and methods. She advises clients on patentability, freedom to operate, infringement, validity and licensing issues.

She also has extensive experience in all aspects of trademark law, including searching, registration, and enforcement of rights, covering a broad range of consumer products and services.
