EIP is pleased to announce the promotion of Callum Docherty to Principal, recognizing his substantial contribution to the firm’s international patent practice and his leadership within EIP’s growing US team.

Callum is a UK and European Patent Attorney, a registered US Patent Agent, and a UPC Representative. With over a decade of experience in the patent profession, he specializes in drafting and prosecuting inventions across software, AI/machine learning, physics based innovations, autonomous systems, electronic devices, semiconductors, photonics, quantum computing, and green technologies. His cross jurisdictional practice spans the varying requirements of US and European patent offices, and he regularly advises clients on global patent strategy.

With a background in physics, Callum is well placed to assist on technically advanced inventions. He has experience across the full patent lifecycle, including EPO Oppositions and Appeals, and works closely with companies and inventors to provide tailored strategic advice aligned with their commercial objectives.

Before entering the patent profession, Callum completed a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Oxford, researching graphene and other 2D materials using terahertz spectroscopy, followed by postdoctoral research at Oxford’s Department of Physics.
