EIP is supporting a new competition aimed at inspiring the next generation of young inventors in Bath.

The Bath Young Inventor of the Year Award 2015 launches on 16 January. The competition is for under 18s who love exploring ideas and coming up with new inventions.

Organisers Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI), supported by local organisations including EIP, Cross Manufacturing, the University of Bath and the Museum of Bath at Work, will mentor entrants and judge final entries at an awards ceremony on Saturday 18 July 2015.

Paul Thomas, from the BRLSI, said: “Bath has a growing reputation as a hub of innovation in the UK and initiatives such as the Craneworks project look set to continue this trend. I never cease to be amazed at the creativity of young people demonstrated in the regular workshops held by the BRLSI and we hope the Bath Young Inventor of the Year Award 2015 will help foster a sense of innovation and entrepreneurship among those who may eventually become the inventors, engineers, and manufacturers of the future.

“We are grateful to the support of several local organisations whose expertise and mentoring will prove invaluable throughout the competition process.”

Professor Tony Miles of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath will officially open the competition at the Museum of Bath at Work on 16 January at 6pm.

Parents and children are invited to come and find out how they can enter the competition and to get some inspiration from a display of local inventions, as well as take part in two inventor challenges during the evening.
