We are delighted to announce that Michael Nielsen will be joining our firm as Of Counsel on 5 August 2025. Michael brings over a decade of experience in European and UK patent law, with a particular focus on litigation before the Unified Patent Court and proceedings at the European Patent Office.

Michael joins us from Berggren, where he led the firm's UPC group and advised clients across the physics, software, and medical device sectors. His practice spans the full patent lifecycle from invention capture and prosecution to opposition, appeal, and litigation. He is a qualified European and UK patent attorney and a registered UPC representative.

The arrival of Michael marks another step in our continued investment in our European capabilities. With a strong track record in contentious proceedings and deep technical expertise, he will play a key role in supporting clients navigating the evolving UPC landscape.

"Michael's strategic insight and deep UPC experience will make a formidable addition to our team", said Magnus Hallin, CEO.

"We're pleased to welcome Michael to the team," said Darren Smyth, Partner at EIP. "His arrival strengthens our UPC capabilities at a pivotal time. I'm looking forward to working closely with him as we continue to support clients in this exciting and pioneering forum."

Michael Nielsen commented:
"Joining EIP is an exciting next step. The firm's energy, ambition, and client-first ethos really resonate with me. I look forward to contributing to the team and helping clients make the most of the opportunities the UPC presents."
