Partner Darren Smyth has been featured as a ‘Face of Chemistry’ in a video by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

IP solicitor Robert Lundie Smith and associate Fergus Tyrrell are also interviewed in a film about chemists working in patents.

A camera crew visited EIP’s London office and shot footage of Fergus, Robert and Darren interacting with colleagues as part of the RSC’s Faces of Chemistry series, which features short videos about well-known chemists, how research leads to new products and technologies, and the types of careers a chemist may enter.

Darren, head of EIP Elements, is asked how his academic background in chemistry continues to influence his work as a patent attorney. In the video, Darren explains what a patent is and why they are needed, how and why he became a patent attorney, and also what IP firms look for in potential graduate recruits.

In a second video, chemistry graduate Robert of EIP Legal describes his route into IP from his post-doctoral research position, and the breadth of work he encounters at EIP in his role as an IP solicitor. Trainee patent attorney and fellow chemistry graduate, Fergus talks about the schedule he faces as he aims to become a fully-qualified patent attorney.
