Building a Resilient Quantum Patent Portfolio: Winning the Race to File First

EIP have appointed an attorney experienced in the mechanical and electronics fields.

Iain Russell joined the firm’s London headquarters on 1 February and will specialise in advising clients on patents for telecommunications and computer-implemented inventions. He joined EIP after four years at a London-based firm of patent and trademark attorneys, where he gained experience working across many technical fields.

Iain is the author of How to Pass P3, the first-ever book on the UK patent drafting examination and lectures on the subject. He has a seat on both the Computer Technology Committee and Education Committee of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and is responsible for the chapter on computer-implemented inventions in the European Patents Handbook. He has drafted patent applications relating to data compression and encryption algorithms, network optimisation, video hardware, vehicle emissions monitoring and mechanical devices.

EIP partner Jerome Spaargaren said: “Iain’s expertise in telecommunications and computer-implemented inventions as well as his experience of working with a range of clients from private inventors, SMEs, universities and multinational corporations, will be invaluable to EIP and our electronics practice group, EIP Digital.”
