Ali Naeem

Associate, Patent Scientist
Cardiff, EIP Europe LLP

Ali joined EIP having completed a PhD in Experimental Physics at Cardiff University where he investigated the optical properties of semiconductor nano-structures. These included cadmium selenide (CdSe) quantum dots in a cadmium sulphide rod-like shell, and CdSe nanoplatelets. He performed three beam four wave mixing experiments using pulsed laser excitation on ensembles of these structures at low temperatures to investigate the exciton dephasing and life-times characteristic to them.

In addition, Ali furthered the development of a home-built instrument capable of simultaneous Scanning Probe Microscopy, and optical imaging. This instrument utilised a sensor comprising an electrochemically etched carbon fibre tip mounted onto a quartz tuning fork.

Ali also holds a first class master’s degree in Physics from Cardiff University where he was awarded several prizes for academic achievement.
