As a UK and European Patent Attorney and Registered US Patent Agent based in EIP’s US office, Matt has a key role at EIP advising US clients on international patent filing strategies.
During his 12 years in private practice, Matt has gained extensive experience of all stages of the patent life-cycle, having drafted and prosecuted patent applications in numerous jurisdictions, including Europe, the US, China, Japan, India, Canada and Australia. Matt is also experienced in filing and prosecuting registered designs and in devising strategies for protecting consumer electronics devices using a combination of registered designs and patents.
Matt has been lead counsel in EPO Oppositions and Appeals, and has advised clients on patent infringement and validity matters, and enforcement of patents, in the UK and abroad, including in China and Japan.
He has technical expertise in inkjet printing, computer networking, robotics, and medical devices, particularly minimally-invasive medical devices.
Matt has a master’s degree in Natural Sciences – Experimental and Theoretical Physics – from the University of Cambridge. As part of his master’s degree, he took specialist courses in information theory and biophysics.
