Peter joined EIP from a role as a Senior IP counsel at Philips. His specialist areas include electronics, optics, semiconductor materials and medical devices and during his eight years in the IP Department of Philips Peter supported the patenting activities of the Healthcare Image Guided Therapy and Diagnostic Imaging businesses.
Before starting his career in IP, Peter spent many years in R&D, initially as visiting Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, then as a Principal Engineer in the Applied Research team at BAE Systems’ solid state sensors division where he supported the development of a MEMs gyroscope, and ultimately as a Senior Scientist at Philips Research. At Philips Research, Peter worked on electrowetting displays, large area electronics, integrated capacitive touch-sensors and biomarker development for point-of-care diagnostics. He is a named inventor or co-inventor on 11 published patent applications.
Peter has a Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering and a PhD in solid state infrared materials research from Southampton University. During his PhD, Peter was sponsored by the UK Defence Engineering Agency (DERA/ QinetiQ) to develop a state infrared modulator to replace the mechanical chopper in pyroelectric thermal imaging cameras.
